PRESS RELEASE
Athens, March 1, 2026
The Internationalist Movement of Solidarity and
Struggle for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants was founded under the name "Struggle
without Borders" at its founding assembly. The assembly brought
together trade unionists, people with many years of experience in the education
of refugee children, public and private sector employees, and activists,
particularly those involved in SYPROME (Coordination for Refugees and Migrants
of trade unions, local collectives, and student associations).
"Struggle without Borders", will have the characteristics of a movement, with regular and democratic procedures, and will operate collectively through assemblies and coordinating bodies in which all participants decide and act on an equal basis. It will not function as an institutional body, NGO, or charitable organization.
It will act as a collective for struggle and the
expression of practical solidarity providing legal, material, and medical
assistance to the extent of its means. It will remain independent of
governments, the European Union, the state, regional and local authorities,
institutions, business interests, and bureaucratic trade-union structures. It will
neither seek support from nor strive for acceptance by political figures,
former government officials, current officeholders, or those aspiring to hold
public office.
It will advocate for and demand that the state and its
institutions at all levels meet the needs and uphold the rights of refugees and
migrants. It is committed to joint action and coordination with other relevant
movements in Greece and abroad and class-oriented trade unions. It will rely on the power of
solidarity and the voluntary participation of all its members.
The aim of the movement is to defend the rights and
freedoms of refugees and immigrants and to fight for the fulfillment of their
needs and demands.
The founding declaration is open for co-signing. Those
